  28. 1.  VirusScan for OS/2 continues to provide the exceptional
  29.     virus detection rates and fast scanning performance of
  30.     the 3.0 engine series.
  31.        
  32.     The VirusScan 3.0 series offers users maximum defense
  33.     against the newest threats to data. VirusScan's 3.0 
  34.     series detects all virus types including Word and Excel 
  35.     macros, boot-sector infections, file, multi-partite, 
  36.     stealth, polymorphic and encrypted viruses.
  37.  
  38. 2.  New command-line option for cleaning macros. Use the
  39.     new /CLEANDOCALL switch to clean all macros from
  40.     infected MSWord and MSOffice documents including the
  41.     the LAROUX Excel macro virus from .XLS files.

  44.     sizes. Use the new /MAXFILESIZE xxx.x (where xxx.x is,

  403. 1.  The VShield DOS TSR (on-access scanning) invoked
  404.     during a WIN-OS/2 session will not display the
  405.     prompting notification screen due to a WIN-OS/2
  406.     display incompatibility.
  407.  
  408. 2.  This DAT file, 3007, is compatible with VirusScan's 
  409.     v3.0 engines only. This DAT file is not intended for
  410.     use with the VirusScan v2.5x engine series.

  413. INSTALLATION
  414.  
  415. * INSTALLING THE PRODUCT *
  416.  
  417. Take one of the following steps depending on which
  418. version of VirusScan for OS/2 you want to install:
  419.  
  420. 1.  For the installable version of VirusScan for OS/2,
  421.     take these steps:
  422.  
  423.     a.  Execute the INSTALL.CMD program.
  424.     b.  Follow the on-screen instructions.
  425.  
  426.     By default, McAfee's installation program makes
  427.     a directory on the hard disk drive named
  428.     C:\MCAFEE\OS2SCAN and copies the program files
  429.     to that directory.
  430.  
  431.     The installation script also adds the directory
  432.     to the path statement in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file
  433.     and adds one line to the file that references the
  434.     VShield program to provide on-access virus protec-
  435.     tion. For the most complete virus protection, McAfee
  436.     recommends using the /ANYACCESS switch.
  437.  
  438.     or
  439.  
  440. 2.  For the non-installable version of VirusScan for
  441.     OS/2, take these installation steps:
  442.  
  443.     a.  Make a directory on your hard disk drive.
  444.     b.  Copy the files to that directory.
  445.     c.  Add that directory to the path statement in
  446.         your AUTOEXEC.BAT file.
  447.

  465. * TESTING YOUR INSTALLATION *
  466.  
  467. The Eicar Standard AntiVirus Test File is a combined effort 
  468. by anti-virus vendors throughout the world to come up 
  469. with one standard by which customers can verify their 
  470. anti-virus installations.
  471.  
  472. To test your installation, copy the following line into its
  473. own file and name it EICAR.COM.
  474.  
  475. X5O!P%@AP[4\PZX54(P^)7CC)7}$EICAR-STANDARD-ANTIVIRUS-TEST-FILE!$H+H*
  476.  
  477. When done, you will have a 69- or 70-byte file.
  478.  
  479. When VirusScan is applied to this file, SCAN will report 
  480. finding the EICAR-STANDARD-AV-TEST-FILE virus.
  481.  
  482. It is important to know that THIS IS NOT A VIRUS. However,
  483. users often have the need to test that their installations 
  484. function correctly. The anti-virus industry, through the 
  485. European Institute for Computer Antivirus Research, has 
  486. adopted this standard to facilitate this need.
  487.  
  488. Please delete the file when installation testing is 
  489. completed so unsuspecting users are not unnecessarily 
  490. alarmed.
  491.  
  492.  
  493. * UNINSTALLING THE PRODUCT * 
  494.  
  495. 1.  Execute VSHIELD/REMOVE to remove VShield from
  496.     memory, then remove the files from your hard disk
  497.     drive and remove any lines in your AUTOEXEC.BAT
  498.     file that reference VShield. If an error message is
  499.     displayed indicating that VShield cannot be removed
  500.     from memory, take the next step.
  501.         
  502. 2.  Edit your AUTOEXEC.BAT file and remove the lines that 
  503.     reference VShield, then reboot your system. Upon
  504.     restarting your system, VShield will not be loaded
  505.     into memory and you can remove the files from your
  506.     hard disk drive.
  507.  
  508.     Note: If the files are removed from your hard disk
  509.     drive prior to removing VShield from memory, an
  510.     error message will be displayed until you remove
  511.     VShield from memory or restart your system.

  551. Q:  How do I enable McAfee's centralized alerting and
  552.     reporting option?
  553.  
  554. A:  VirusScan now supports centralized alerting and report-
  555.     ing to a remote NetWare or Windows NT server running
  556.     NetShield for Windows NT v2.5.3 or NetShield for NetWare
  557.     v2.3.3. To set up this option on your VirusScan client,
  558.     use the /ALERTPATH <directory> option, where the
  559.     <directory> is the path to the remote NetWare volume or
  560.     NT directory. From this directory, NetShield can broad-
  561.     cast or compile the alerts and reports according to its
  562.     established configuration.
  563.  
  564.     NOTE: The client must have write access to this
  565.     <directory> location and the directory must contain
  566.     the NetShield-supplied CENTALRT.TXT file.
  567.  
  568.     To send a complete alerting file that identifies the
  569.     system and user, establish the following environment
  570.     variables, or add them to the AUTOEXEC.BAT file for
  571.     DOS and CONFIG.SYS for OS/2.
  572.  
  573.       Set COMPUTERNAME=<name of computer>
  574.       Set USERNAME=<user name>
  575.  
  576.     The alert file sent to the server is an .alr text
  577.     file. Upon receipt of the alert file, NetShield NT
  578.     or NetShield for NetWare sends an alert message to
  579.     an administrator and/or appropriate personnel.

  582. Q:  I have created my own DOS Emergency diskette, how
  583.     can I optimize it's performance?
  584.  
  585. A:  For optimal performance, create a CONFIG.SYS file on
  586.     the boot diskette and add the following lines:
  587.  
  588.        [CONFIG.SYS]
  589.        DEVICE=HIMEM.SYS
  590.        DOS=HIGH
  591.     
  592.     Also, add the HIMEM.SYS file from the DOS directory
  593.     to the boot diskette. 
  594.  
  595.     Note: For detailed instructions on creating an Emergency
  596.     diskette, refer to the instructions outlined in your
  597.     online documentation.

  599.  
  600. Q:  Does VirusScan for OS/2 detect Word Macro viruses?
  601.  
  602. A:  Yes, it detects Macro viruses with the same
  603.     accuracy as McAfee's other anti-virus software.
  604.  
  605.  
  606. Q.  Is there a VShield program that works in OS/2?
  607.  
  608. A:  There is no constant TSR-type protection available
  609.     in OS/2. Included in the package is the
  610.     DOS/Windows version of VShield, but it is only
  611.     active while the system is running a DOS or Windows
  612.     session.
  613.  
  614.  
  615. Q:  Is there a Graphical User Interface (GUI) for 
  616.     VirusScan for OS/2?
  617.  
  618. A:  No. There is no GUI. OS/2 is a command line
  619.     controlled product only.
  620.  
  621.  
  622. Q:  Can I update VirusScan's data files to detect
  623.     new viruses?
  624.  
  625. A:  Yes. If you have Internet access, you can download
  626.     updated VirusScan data files from the McAfee Web 
  627.     Site, BBS, or other online resources. To download 
  628.     from the McAfee Web Site, follow these steps:
  629.  
  630.     1.  Go to the McAfee Web Site (http://www.mcafee.com).
  631.  
  632.     2.  Select Update DAT File in the left hand column
  633.         or frame.
  634.  
  635.     3.  Scroll down, and click Update Your DAT Files to
  636.         update your virus definition files.
  637.  
  638.     4.  Data file updates are stored in a compressed form 
  639.         to reduce transmission time. Unzip the files into
  640.         a temporary directory, then copy the files to the
  641.         appropriate directory, replacing your old files.    
  642.  
  643.     5.  Before performing any scans, shut down your
  644.         computer, wait a few seconds, and turn it on again.
  645.
